Reasons for the change in goal
As I announced in the last weekly report, the plan to double the size of the textures on the models will not be pursued any further. I also stated the main reason. By doubling the texture size you can do a lot to improve the representation of the models and you know that I always get everything I can out of a texture, but this can only partially conceal design errors in the 3D models. The V 100 models are a good example of this, regardless of whether they are the Peter Hanslip models that I use or the GR models.
Another reason for the decision to build the models from scratch instead of further improving the textures by doubling the size is that Open Rails offers options for displaying 3D models that were not even remotely possible at the time the above models were built . Models built for Open Rails can be built in much more detail than was possible with MSTS at the time.
The third reason for my decision is that I have had access to all of the original V 100 documents since the beginning of the year. This means all technical drawings, diagrams, tables, lists and other documents. However, all of these documents still have to be digitized and that will cost money and even more time. But these investments are worth it because the result will be 100% accuracy, something that has never been achieved before with either the MSTS or the OR.
Activity construction details
As announced several weeks ago, the announced activities will relate to route PT 14. It will be a package of ten activities, four of which will be passenger train activities and six will be freight train activities. The package is set in the winter of 1994/95.
A second package is being built for a PT branch line. I still have to decide what that will be. This package will also contain ten activities and will also take place in the winter of 1994/95.
Until next time
